Three day tour of the Somme Battlefields & Amiens

Take a three-day tour of the Somme Battlefields and Amiens with expert local guides to discover the sites of remembrance and learn more about this important chapter of history.


Your morning will begin with a guided tour of the Historial, Museum of the Great War in Péronne, a fascinating museum that studies not just the conflict's military aspect but also the impact it had on society by comparing the three main nations at war.

A lunch break will be taken before leaving the Historial: packed lunch consisting of a ham or cheese sandwich, crisps and a drink.

The afternoon will begin with a guided tour of the Somme Battlefields. Your guide will explain the history of this battle, enabling you to discover the poignant sites of remembrance like the South African Memorial and Museum at Delville Wood, Pozières and its various memorials to the Australians and the Tank Corps, and Lochnagar Crater.

Your evening meal will be taken in Amiens, in a restaurant close to your accommodation


After breakfast, you will head out to Froissy-Dompierre to take a ride on the Little Train of the Upper Somme, a railway line constructed during the First World War for the needs of the Battle of the Somme. You will then be taken on a coach tour of the Somme Valley. This trip will allow you to admire the beautiful countryside of the Somme with its chalky cliffs, eel ponds and peaceful farmland.
A lunch break will be taken in Albert: packed lunch including a sandwich, crisps, a piece of fruit, cake and a drink
After lunch, you will head to the Somme 1916 Museum to learn more about the Battle of the Somme through its magnificent collections and dioramas. You will then be taken on a tour of the surrounding sites of remembrance, including Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial Park, the Ulster Tower and the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing.

The third day of the tour focusses on the fabulous city of Amiens, where after breakfast you will take a boat trip along the narrow canals of the Hortillonnages and admire the beauty of the floating market gardens. You will then be given a guided tour of the city before lunch.

A two-course lunch including wine and coffee will be taken in Amiens.

In the afternoon, you will be given a guided tour of Amiens Cathedral, our magnificent Gothic cathedral which is twice the size of Notre Dame de Paris. The day will end with some free time to wander around Amiens and take in its architecture and enjoy a spot of shopping.

Tariff 2017 :
€295 per person (minimum of 30 persons - coach driver and tour guide go free).
The price includes: guided tours, courier guide, steam train ride, 2 evening meals, 1 lunch and 2 packed-lunches, 2 nights accommodation (twin room), 2 breakfasts. 
The price does not include: transport, insurance, tips, single room supplement from €40 to €49 per person per night, taxes + €1 per person per night.
